13th IBC Council Meeting and Venerable Prof. KL Dhammajoti was appointed as IBC New Rector

 

(IBC February 17, 2008) Venerable Prof Dr K L Dhammajoti was appointed as the new Rector of IBC by the council.

The Chairman, Ven. Wei Wu, briefed the meeting on the contribution of Venerable Prof Dr K L Dhammajoti to IBC from the very beginning at the conceptual stage to its establishment till the present in various capacities as Council member, Vice Rector and so on. According to the traditions of Buddhist universities in Thailand, it is customary to have a member of the Sangha to be the rector of Buddhist tertiary institutions. Furthermore, Venerable Prof Dr K L Dhammajoti is highly known and respected not only as a member of the Sangha but also a Buddhist scholar and academic of international renown. Venerable Prof Dr K L Dhammajoti would make the most appropriate choice to be the new Rector of IBC.

The proposal to appoint Venerable Prof Dr K L Dhammajoti as the new Rector of International Buddhist College was unanimously accepted at the meeting.

Venerable Prof Dr K L Dhammajoti thanked the Council for the confidence and gracefully accepted the proposed appointment. He thanked his predecessors, Prof Udom for obtaining the operating license for IBC and the approval for its B.A. programs, and later Dr Somboon for continuing to bring progress and innovative ideas to IBC’s development. IBC is a noble cause. He is looking forward to the new appointment and will do his best to bring progress to IBC. He will certainly look up to the members here who are rich in administrative experience for guidance in the course of his work.

On behalf of the Council, the Chairman welcomed the new Rector on board and pledged his and the Council’s support to the new Rector.
