Ms. Runa Barua of Bangladesh was ordained as Sramani Gautami in Buddhagaya by Venerable  Dr. Vara Sambodhi  Mahathero (India) one year ago (in 2012) and she has established the Sramani Sangha of Bangladesh. She is a prominent meditation master, she conducted meditation classes and talks on Buddhism for both Bengalis and the International community for a decade. She has trained several Buddhists men and women.  Sramani  Gautami (Ms. Runa Barua) is a perseverant seeker of Lord Buddha’s enlightenment and she has determined to dedicate her life in the footsteps of Tatagata  Buddha. It seems female sexuality is the most deep-rooted cause of man’s negative attitudes to women.  It is remarkable that triumph over prejudice (of male) and ignorance is a triumph for us all. Even today in the name of religion fundamentalists are killing Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Dalit - Buddhists and poor low castes people in South Asia.  Anticlerical or Brahman’s political Hinduism’s factor in the Buddhist movement was started for the establishment of the democratic society. But Brahman Mafia prayed to the power of the emperor Akbar and Brahmin scholars complied and edited the Allah Upanisad during his reign and declared Prophet Mohammad as an Avatar of their religion.

Wheel of Life

The wheel of life as portrayed in Tibetan art and Japanese art in the circle, the hog represents ignorance (Moha), the cock represents desire (raga) and snake represents aversion (dosa). Despite this recent progress, I think it exaggeration to say that Buddha’s Dependent Origination (Paticca Samuppada) theory of cause and effect and the Middle Way are still applicant to moral development of mankind and the very best universal theory.  It seems the comparison of the wheel of life with scientific outlook. Buddhism teaches that all compounded things come into being, presently exist and ceases dependent on conditions and causes.

Newsweek of May 7, 2001 published a cover story on “Science & the Spirit”. In this essay there are comments on Buddhism, ”Scientists are using brain imaging to pinpoint the circuits that are active when Tibetan Buddhists mediate.”…10

            According to Buddhism ignorance is the ultimate beginning of life.

The Buddha taught, “All conditioned things, are impermanent, all conditioned things are suffering or discontent and all things are without substance.” 14 The Buddha’s teaching is centered on the natural law of depended origination or the `Theory of Relation of Phenomena.’  The Buddha discovered natural laws (Dharma) of arising of problems of life and solving of problems of life. A sincere Buddhist learns that sensuous pleasure is transient. With this understanding a Buddhist scholar does not classify natural laws the same way as a physicist. The aim of his study in the same i.e. he seeks happiness. What is arises that is subject to destruction. This is the teaching of the Buddha. So the ultimate happiness or salvation of Buddhism is Nirvana. There are many who have got a wrong notion that Nirvana is negative and implies ending of self.

Buddhism was first made known to Japan in 538 A. D. when a Korean king presented brilliant images of Buddha, scriptures scrolls and ornaments to the Japanese Emperor. Japan was then ruled by the Emperor Kimmei and his court nobles. Among several Japanese groups, Soga clan favored Buddhism since they thought it had something to offer for the enrichment of Japanese culture. Glorious victory to (about forty years later when) the Prince Regent Shotoku Taishi (574 – 622), was succeeded to the throne after the Emperor Yomei who was the first Emperor to become a Buddhist.  Buddhism was officially recognized as the Japanese religion. Conquering all desires, Japanese people made their motherland Japan as a `dream land’ in reciting the name of the Buddha Amitabha, called Nembutsu. It is just man’s humble response to the calling of the Buddha. There is no idol worship in Buddhism. To reflect the ideal psychology of the Buddha there are Buddha statues to realize “Pure Mind is the Buddha.” 

Japanese Buddhist pagodas symbolized to the historic pilgrim or monk of highest stage of fulfillment. There are many Buddha images (Buddharupas) of Zen (Meditation) Buddha and Tantric Buddha.  The highest and all over towering main stupa of Pagoda in its plainness and abstraction symbolizes the eternal peace after deliverance (Nirvana).

Kings words are laws. Asoka - the Great King of South Asia, who propagated Buddhism in the 3^rd century B.C. There are explanations of Buddha’s Sutras (Discourses of Buddha) inscribed in hills, rock edicts as the laws of Emperor Asoka.  Doing good is Brahman. Good is God. Doing bad business in the name of God is not Brahman. The first thing to recognize is that rights are in the gift of others and depend upon their good will, if not of the individual ancient Indians perceive as owing Asokan empire a right, then at least upon the goodwill of society in its as enforcer of Dharma’s rights. Emperor Asoka’s subjects can expect to be treated well by Dharma in practice as we read in rock edicts. For a while he (King Asoka) became a pilgrim. He went on pilgrimage in Lumbini, there are five lines of Brahmi script engraved on the pillar erected by king Asoka (249 – 250 B. C.) . In the second line there are two compound words, hida Buddhue Jate Sakyamuni, means here Sakyamuni Buddha was born. 18Lumbini is the birth place of the prince Siddhartha who later became the Buddha.

Dharma (in Pali Dhamma) is a Sanskrit word and there is an all embracing  term related with the maintenance of universal order. The climax of Emperor Asoka’s life appears to have come soon after the conquest of Kalinga (Orissa, India).  Before he was a cruel King Asoka ( Chanda Asoka), after the Kalinga war he repented for many people’s killings. He was converted into Buddhism and became Dharma Asoka.  Why Buddhism? King Asoka was not satisfied with Brahmanism and Jainism like his Grandfather and father. Buddhist literature Asokavana (life of Asoka) would be to say that dharma has been restored in the idea of a welfare state as well as a secular state. Asokan ideals of kingship made conquest by righteousness (Dharmavijaya) inspired by the Buddhist morality. King Asoka transformed the war drums (bheri ghosa) into the drums of righteousness (dharma ghosa) and its message spread throughout his empire and abroad.

            Under the Emperor Asoka, nearly whole South Asian Continent was unified for the first time in history. The question again and again arises concerning the Dharma of emperor Asoka. Dharma meant for Asoka morality, active social concern, religious tolerance, ecological awareness and observance of ethical precepts and renunciation of war.

Muslims fundamentalists (Taliaban, Al-quida, Mujaheedin etc) copied violence from the Brahmin and Hindu fundamentalists and let us see what happens in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Pakistan, Bangladesh and India’s minority and peace loving Muslim people are appealing to the world conscience, world mass media and the United Nations for security in their homelands. The Jamaitul Mujahideen group calls for the establishment of an Islamic caliphate in Bangladesh while nation’s worst fears came true when the nation stood terrorized as set of off 400 bombs on August 17, 2005. So, Al – Qaeda Group suspect in Bali and Bangladesh Terror explosion. Buddhists all over the world have been shocked in January 1985 upon reading the news of the outrage at Borobudur Bombing in Indonesia.  Al-Qaeda and Taliban regimes destroyed two historic Great Buddha statues: one measuring 53 metres and the second one 48 metres in central Bamiyan province of Afghanistan in February 2001. So the 9/11 of the U.S.A. did not come without warning. Several of decades old Bangladesh state-sponsored campaign of blatant discrimination and barbaric atrocities against Bangladesh’s religious and ethnic minorities turned into one of religious and ethnic cleansing or genocide. Great poet Rabindranath Tagore encouraged us, “Fear not comes the message the direction of the rising Sun, those that will give life to the last throb; will diminish not, never.” But Holy Qur’an declared, “You can not abuse other religion. (6 : 106)” Even the Qur’an warned, “No religious place should be demolished.(22 : 38).” During the 10^th and 11^th centuries, Buddhism in South Asia was eclipsed by Islamic invaders.

History and development of Linguistic

Modern historical linguistics dates from the late 18th century and grew out of the earlier discipline of philology, the study of ancient texts and documents, which goes back to antiquity.

At first historical linguistics was comparative linguistics and mainly concerned with establishing language families and the reconstruction of prehistoric proto-languages, using the comparative method and internal reconstruction. The focus was on the well-known Indo-European languages, many of which had long written histories. But since then, significant comparative linguistic work has been done on the Uralic languages, Austronesia languages and various families of Native American languages, among many others. Comparative linguistics is now, however, only a part of a more broadly conceived discipline of historical linguistics. For the Indo-European languages comparative study is now a highly specialized field and most research is being carried out on the subsequent development of these languages, particularly the development of the modern standard varieties.

Some scholars have undertaken studies attempting to establish super-families, linking for example Indo-European, Uralic and other families into Nostratic. These attempts have not been accepted widely because the information necessary to establish relatedness becomes less available as the time depth is increased. The time-depth of linguistic methods is limited because of chance word resemblances and varies between language groups, but a limit of around 10,000 years is often assumed. The dating of the various proto-languages is also difficult. Several methods are available for this but only approximate results can be obtained.
