Monks reading and checking things that have been destroyed

At Benares, there was a millionaire’s son named Yasa who had abundant material wealth. One night, he fell asleep during a musical performance by his female dancers and musicians. He woke up in the early hours of the morning to the sight of his sleeping performers in unbecoming postures. The entire scene before him was one that resembled that in a cemetery. He left home feeling distressed and oppressed and walked in the direction of Isipatana, where Buddha was residing. When Yasa moaned his distress upon seeing the Buddha, He assured Yasa that there was neither distress nor oppression there.

Asokan Rock edicts are laws of Asokan State: By Sona Kanti Barua

Posted in , , , ,
Kings words are laws. Asoka - the Great King of South Asia, who propagated Buddhism in the 3rd century B.C. There are explanations of Buddha’s Sutras (Discourses of Buddha) inscribed in hills, rock edicts as the laws of Emperor Asoka.  Doing good is Brahman. Good is God. Doing bad business in the name of God is not Brahman. The first thing to recognize is that rights are in the gift of others and depend upon their good will, if not of the individual ancient Indians perceive as owing Asokan empire a right, then at least upon the goodwill of society in its as enforcer of Dharma’s rights. Emperor Asoka’s subjects can expect to be treated well by Dharma in practice as we read in rock edicts. For a while he (King Asoka) became a pilgrim. He went on pilgrimage in Lumbini, there are five lines of Brahmi script engraved on the pillar erected by king Asoka (249 – 250 B. C.) . In the second line there are two compound words, hida Buddhue Jate Sakyamuni, means here Sakyamuni Buddha was born. 18Lumbini is the birth place of the prince Siddhartha who later became the Buddha.

Dharma is the Religion and Law of the Asokan Buddhist State: By Sona Kanti Barua

Dharma (in Pali Dhamma) is a Sanskrit word and there is an all embracing  term related with the maintenance of universal order. The climax of Emperor Asoka’s life appears to have come soon after the conquest of Kalinga (Orissa, India).  Before he was a cruel King Asoka ( Chanda Asoka), after the Kalinga war he repented for many people’s killings. He was converted into Buddhism and became Dharma Asoka.  Why Buddhism? King Asoka was not satisfied with Brahmanism and Jainism like his Grandfather and father. Buddhist literature Asokavana (life of Asoka) would be to say that dharma has been restored in the idea of a welfare state as well as a secular state. Asokan ideals of kingship made conquest by righteousness (Dharmavijaya) inspired by the Buddhist morality. King Asoka transformed the war drums (bheri ghosa) into the drums of righteousness (dharma ghosa) and its message spread throughout his empire and abroad.
Under the Emperor Asoka, nearly whole South Asian Continent was unified for the first time in history. The question again and again arises concerning the Dharma of emperor Asoka. Dharma meant for Asoka morality, active social concern, religious tolerance, ecological awareness and observance of ethical precepts and renunciation of war.

The Banner for the Peace Rally 10/07/2013
Monks in Thailand from Burma and neighboring countries have called for peace and increased security at India’s Mahabodhi Temple following bomb blasts at the sacred Buddhist site on Sunday.
More than 200 monks from Buddhism-practicing nations studying at Buddhist universities in Bangkok gathered on Wednesday in front of the United Nations office and later the Indian Embassy, where they condemned the violence at Bodh Gaya in eastern India.
“We call for tightened security at the Mahabodhi site—where the Lord Buddha gained enlightenment and practiced peace—to avoid further attacks like Sunday,” said Ashin Kuvera, a Burmese monk studying at the Buddhist Maha Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
“Lord Buddha is one of the world’s pacifists. Such violence to the Unesco world heritage site as well as a landmark of the peace-builder is like an assault to pacifists around the world,” Ashin Kuvera told The Irrawaddy on Wednesday. “We condemn such violence and we do not encourage such acts. Therefore, we urge authorities to take such preventive [measures] for peace and harmony.”
The Buddhist monks studying at Maha Chulalongkorn and Mahamakut Buddhist University, Thailand’s top Buddhism schools, and Siam University, are from Burma and several other neighboring countries.
Speaking to The Irrawaddy over the phone, Ashin Kuvera said that “as soon as we heard the news about the blast, we held the meeting. The student monks from other countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and China joined the meeting and arranged a time when all the student monks could join, as we have different levels of study at the Buddhist universities.”
Two people, including a Burmese monk, were injured in at least eight blasts that went off in the early hours of Sunday morning at Bodh Gaya and two other locations in the state of Bihar. One man was detained by Indian police on Monday while other suspects are being sought.
Following the bomb blasts, Buddhist monks held protests on Monday in Bodh Gaya at the temple complex to condemn the attack. Separately, Magadh University students from Burma, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam staged a protest at their university campus, also in Bodh Gaya.

In the wake of the bombings, the Burmese government has bolstered security at Burma’s main Buddhists sites, including Rangoon’s Shwedagon Pagoda, Mandalay’s Maha Myat Muni Pagoda and the ancient temple complex of Bagan.

Hindu Conspiracy at Buddhagaya By Sona Kanti Barua.

Please Protect Buddhist Heart from the terrorists
S Barua August 8, Buddhagaya, Bihar (India) , About 2600 years ago Gautama Buddha was supremely enlightened at Buddhagaya and there is a sinister conspiracy to change the Buddhagaya’s Mahabodhi Temple into a Hindu temple by Hindu fundamentalists in India. South Asian news agency reported that India and Bihar Governments’ neglects found at fault and a total shutdown was observed in this Buddhagaya of this Bihar town, known as the most sacred pilgrimage place of the Buddhist world. People irrespective of religions including local traders, hoteliers and Buddhist Monks Community observed the shutdown that severely affected normal life to protest the district magistrate’s anti-encroachment drive dated August 8, 2011. “The state government had directed the district administration to demolish illegal construction near the 1,500 year old Mahabodhi temple in Buddhagaya to create a buffer zone as per UNESCO plans;” a district officer said. The state government of Bihar had however, admitted that new structures have come up within the restricted area.

Hindu State Communism was started in Buddhagaya many years ago. This also seems a plausible interpretation for the most aggressive example of seventh century `State communalism’ the military despotism of Hindu king Sashanka. Hindu took over the Mahabodhi Temple of Buddhagaya and violating Buddhist emperor Asoka’s imperial Emblem Dharma Cakra (Hindu politics transformed into the Asoka Cakra),
