Beginning of Life indicates the Wheel of Life

Wheel of Life
Wheel of Life
The wheel of life as portrayed in Tibetan art and Japanese art in the circle, the hog represents ignorance (Moha), the cock represents desire (raga) and snake represents aversion (dosa). Despite this recent progress, I think it exaggeration to say that Buddha’s Dependent Origination (Paticca Samuppada) theory of cause and effect and the Middle Way are still applicant to moral development of mankind and the very best universal theory.  It seems the comparison of the wheel of life with scientific outlook. Buddhism teaches that all compounded things come into being, presently exist and ceases dependent on conditions and causes.
Newsweek of May 7, 2001 published a cover story on “Science & the Spirit”. In this essay there are comments on Buddhism, ”Scientists are using brain imaging to pinpoint the circuits that are active when Tibetan Buddhists mediate.”…10
According to Buddhism ignorance is the ultimate beginning of life.

Monks reading and checking things that have been destroyed
Monks reading and checking things that have been destroyed

At Benares, there was a millionaire’s son named Yasa who had abundant material wealth. One night, he fell asleep during a musical performance by his female dancers and musicians. He woke up in the early hours of the morning to the sight of his sleeping performers in unbecoming postures. The entire scene before him was one that resembled that in a cemetery. He left home feeling distressed and oppressed and walked in the direction of Isipatana, where Buddha was residing. When Yasa moaned his distress upon seeing the Buddha, He assured Yasa that there was neither distress nor oppression there.

The Buddha and His Dhamma

Highly respectable author Dr. B. R. Amedkar was a great man and he has dedicated his life for welfare of human beings, Dalits, human rights and Buddhism. But there are some mistakes in his book entitled The Buddha and His Dhamma (a) 14. Conflict with Sangh (pages : 24 to 26); (b) 15 Offer of Exile (pages 26 to 28), (c)16. Parivaja – the Way Out (pages 28 to 29), (d) 17. Parting Words (pages 30 to 32) (e) Leaving His Home (pages 32 to 35).
The author Dr. B. R. Ambedkar did not understand the perfection of Buddhahood including the renunciation and he did not mention in this book relating to the  Nekhamma ( Renunciation) parami of the Buddha.   According to the author that renunciation is punishment. It is not true in the life of the Buddha.  Understanding the renunciation (on the great journey to supreme enlightenment) of  Bodhisattva Prince Siddhartha’s long cherished resolution as he performed Renunciation   Parami (Nekkhamma Perfection) with other 9 perfections. Renunciation is followed by wisdom or knowledge. Buddha teaches both by example and by precept. Within he (the Buddha)  is pure, without he purifies.  According to the Jatataka No. 538,  Prince Temiya avoided pleasures and in order to devote time for higher things in life.

Principles of Dialogue

Posted in , , , ,

Participation in a local interfaith organization is one of the better ways to get to know people of other religions, because you not only find out more about other religions, you also get to know people of differing faiths at the personal level. In this time of dialogue, keep in mind the following guidelines:

Honesty and tolerance: dialogue shall be based upon honesty and tolerance. It requires effective listening and learning, producing genuine engagement. Dialogue conducted in a spirit of tolerance emphasizes that all people inhabit the same earth. This assumes certain shared values such as the sacredness of life, the dignity of all human beings and the integrity of creation and nature.
